Andy started exploring when he was four years old. He was all over the house exploring every corner of it, and his parents occasionally had trouble finding him hiding somewhere in the house or continuing his explorations outside. He went to Kennedy High School, but wasn’t very interested in studying, preferring to be outdoors, exercising with his friends and cycling to places they hadn’t been before. In 1976 Andy graduated and chose not to enroll in a university, but to travel.

Career as a TV Personality

Andy is traveling through Maryland after graduation and just when he decided to go to Alaska, his sister invited him to her wedding, so Andy chose to stay for a while. He started working as a carpenter to support himself financially. He stayed on the job for about a year before finally moving to Alaska, where he began living his “sub-zero life.”

Andy gained recognition in 2013 after being invited to star in the show “Life Below Zero” produced by Barbara Doran and Josh Freed. It aired its first episode on National Geographic on May 19, 2013, and deals with the lives of people living in remote areas of Alaska.

Andy is just one of many people featured in the series, and is known for his 25 sled dogs and for his turbulent love life – he now lives on the Yukon River near the town of Eagle. Sue Aikens is a 57-year-old woman who is the only person living in the Kavik River Camp, while Chip and Agnes Hailstone are the parents of their seven children and live on the Kobuk River. Glenn Villeneuve lived in Burlington, Vermont before deciding to move to Alaska in 1999, and has lived alone in the Chandalar community ever since. Jessie Holmes is a hunter, dog sled racer and a fishermanand he lives in Nenana with his 40 sled dogs.

Erik Salitan is the youngest of the cast and lives about 108 km from the Arctic Circle, while the last member of the cast, Ricko DeWilde, lives alone in a cabin near Huslia in Alaska, while his children occasionally visit it.

“Life Below Zero” began its 14th season on September 7, 2020 and has won five awards since 2016. It won a 68th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Cinematography for a Reality Program in 2016, while it won a 69th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Picture Editing for an Unstructured Reality Program the following year.

Love life and relationships

Andy met his now ex-wife Kate Bassich in 2003 in Dawson City, and after dating for about a year, Kate moved in with Andy at Calico Bluff, and the two eventually got married. have kept the date of their marriage secret. They learned all about survival together, including preparing food, caring for their dogs and going hunting, and started their own business in 2011.

In 2015, Kate had had enough of surviving and decided to leave Alaska, but because Andy didn’t want to go with her, the two divorced – they have no children together.

He is in a relationship today with Denise Becker, whom he met while canoeing with a Boy Scout group in Florida – the two fell in love and she moved to Alaska to be with him.

His muscles and bones were infected and he was near death, and although he has since recovered, Andy will have to use crutches for the rest of his life.

He likes to read when he’s at home and there’s nothing to do, and he and his girlfriend Denise also like cards and dominoes.
