He was born to Chemical Bank Corporation Private Division Chairman Anne Brewster and real estate dealer and attorney James W. Shue. Andrew grew up with his older sister, Elizabeth Shue, who appeared in the famous ‘Karate Kid’ in 1984. He is also the brother of the late William Shue and John Shue.

Andrew was enrolled at Columbia High school, Maplewood, NJ, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame – his sister joined the Hall of Fame in 1994. He attended the same high school with future actor/director Zach Braff; they even lived in the same neighborhood.

In high school he founded the student group Students Serving Seniors to help the elderly. President Reagan awarded the group a service award in 1987. Andrew attended higher education in New Hampshire at Dartmouth College, graduating in 1989 with a BA in history.

Andrew Shue professional career and rise to stardom

Andrew was cast to appear in his debut movie, Aaron Spelling’s “Melrose Place”, in 1992 as Billy Campbell, along with Throne Smith (he later dated T. Smith), making him very popular and starring on the soap for six years played.

Shue later appeared as an abusive husband in Francis F. Coppola’s “The Rainmaker” starring Claire Danes and Matt Damon. In 1996, Andrew was traded with former SportsCenter correspondent, Charley Steiner, in a SportsCenter commercial on ESPN – Shue took his position at SportsCentre and Steiner took over from Shue at ‘Melrose Place’.

In 2007, Andrew worked on “Gracie’s” future 2007 film, and co-created Usra Major Films with his brother John, his sister Elizabeth, and “An Inconvenient Truth” Oscar-winning director and brother-in-law Davis Guggenheim. He co-produced “Gracie” and played a minor role.

The film was made to pay tribute to his brother Will, who died in a road accident in 1998. The film follows Elisabeth’s childhood storyline, in which she appears as the only girl to play on a boys’ soccer team.

Shue’s career in football began while playing for the Bulawayo Highlanders in Zimbabwe. The team won “the double” (both the CBZ Cup and Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League cups) during that season. He was the only white Zimbabwean player in the football league.

Shue played for the Zimbabwe Soccer Premier League in 1993 when they faced Los Angeles United of the Continental Indoor Soccer League.

He played two games for Anaheim Splash in July 1994, and is also remembered for playing for Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy while still appearing in “Melrose Place”. The talented footballer was injured in 1997 and spent the entire season as an injured reserve.

As an entrepreneur, Andrew has several notable achievements such as being the co-founder of the volunteer organization Do Something, co-founded with his childhood friend Michael Sanchez.

He and Michael also co-founded the social networking site CafeMom, which provides a platform for mothers to connect and share ideas and experiences. It has now grown into a group of companies and has Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Highland Capital Partners as principal investors.

Andrew is currently teaming up with Joanie Robach, his mother-in-law, and comedian Chuck Nice to co-host the webisode series “Mad Life”.
