Who is Miguel Leon Tyson?
Born in 2002 in the United States of America, Miguel Leon Tyson is known only as the son of legendary boxer Mike Tyson. His father is considered one of the strongest heavyweight boxers of all time, became the undisputed world champion and has held many belts since he was 20 years old.
The Wealth of Miguel Leon Tyson
As of early 2020, Miguel Leon Tyson’s net worth is likely to only benefit from his father’s success. Mike Tyson has an estimated net worth of over $3 million, mainly earned through a successful boxing career, though there was a time when he enjoyed a net worth of over $300 million, thanks to lucrative boxing contracts, endorsements, and other earnings.
However, due to criminal actions, bad investments and the high life, he has lost a lot of it.
Life so far
Miguel Leon spent most of his childhood away from the spotlight, as most of the attention was focused on his father’s successful yet controversial life. Mike is known to have fathered at least eight children with three different women. He was a child from one of his father’s relationships, with Sol Xochiti though they never married, and of whom there is no other information except she apparently still occasionally interacts with Mike Tyson.
Miguel grew up next to a younger sister who passed away suddenly after a accident on a treadmill. He was seven years old when he found his four-year-old sister dangling from a cord after attempting to play on the treadmill. She was rushed to hospital, but could not be resuscitated.
The next report on his life came when he was 15 years old and started approaching his father to use boxing for his fitness regimen. Despite just starting out, he showed a lot of potential, with heavy hitting, agility and strength – his father posted about the education on social media with a video.
Many of his fans believed that Miguel could pursue a career in the craft, but his father denied that his son had any intention of doing so and was only doing it for practice.
Father – Mike Tyson
Mike grew up in a financially poor household, which forced him to move. His father abandoned the family and his mother died when he was 16 years old. He learned to fight on the street, partly because of the rampant crime in his area. Eventually, one of the counselors at a juvenile detention center saw his potential for boxing and began training in the sport. He came under the tutelage of the famous boxing trainer Cus D’Amato.
His first fights were very successful, as he won two golds in two separate junior Olympics. In 1985 he made his professional debut and won 26 of his first 28 fights by knockout (KO) or technical knockout (TKO). The following year his fights were televised and Mike showed that he could win quickly. This also led to his first title fight for the World Boxing Council (WBC) title, which he won in the second round against Trevor Berbick. At the time, he became the youngest ever heavyweight champion and many of his challengers were intimidated by his strength, speed, accuracy and timing.
Tyson’s success and downfall
Within a year, Mike secured two more championships, defeating James Smith for the World Boxing Federation (WBF) and Tony Tucker for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) titles, making history by becoming the first heavyweight to win all three boxing titles at the same time. After that, he had over nine title challengers, successfully defending each time and keeping his title as undisputed champion.
However, things came to an abrupt halt when he was convicted of the rape of an 18-year-old girl. Doctors saw that the girl had signs of rape on her, while Tyson defended that everything was done with consent.
He was sentenced to six years in prison after his appeal was rejected, but he only served three years, and in a juvenile detention center. During this time, he converted to Islam, after discovering it in prison.
The comeback and life after
After returning, Mike worked to regain his titles, again winning the WBA and WBC titles. However, he lost the title against Evander Holyfield and their rematch was stopped after Tyson bit Holyfield in the ears. After a few years of boxing, he eventually retired from the sport as he was no longer in his prime.
His retirement also meant that he had lost much of his $300 million net worth earned from boxing and that in debt of about $23 million, due in part to problems with alcohol, child support and bad financial decisions.
He eventually got out of debt with the help of accountants and other financial experts. Since leaving the sport, he has made many endorsements and TV appearances. He published the book “Undisputed truth‘, which became a New York Times bestseller. He also ventured into acting and attended mixed martial arts events. In 2017, it was announced that he would be the face for Ultra Tune franchise commercials. Around the same time, he also released another book called “Iron Ambition” which chronicles and trains his time with Cus D’Amato.
Private life
Miguel Leon is single and while he doesn’t appear in public much, he hasn’t been seen in any possible romantic relationships. His father settled in 2009, in his third marriage to longtime girlfriend Kiki Spicer. Miguel attended the private wedding held at the La Bella Wedding Chapel at the Las Vegas Hilton. His father has been open about his struggles with alcoholism and living with sobriety. He is also a strong supporter of Donald Trump, although it is unknown if his son shares the same view. Despite his mistakes, his father is still regarded as a boxing legend and icon, and many hope that Miguel will prove to be of the same caliber. However, he has not yet taken any steps in the sport, even as an amateur.
